Highlights

Language holiday French at the seaside

You are between 10 and 13 and you would like to learn some French at the Belgian seaside? Then you are definitely welcome to our language holiday in Oostduinkerke.

Speaking Dutch is allowed here, but young people are encouraged to use known and acquired French words as much as possible.

Next to a  healthy dose of language and entertainment activities on the beach, we go swimming in a subtropical pool. In Nieuwpoort, we challenge each other for a go-cart race. We even cross the national border, venture into France and take an adventurous hiking tour on the cliffs of Cap Blanc Nez. The cherry on the pie is a day trip to French Boulogne-Sur-Mer where we have short conversations with locals.

Near the dunes, close to the sea

De Sloep in Oostduinkerke is our basecamp. We stay there in full board, close to the sea, the dunes nearby. The rooms are convenient, with a maximum occupancy of 11 people. We start the day with a breakfast buffet and in the afternoon we have a picnic, a sandwich or a hot snack.  The evening a delicious three-course meal awaits us.  Pasta, meat rolls in tomato sauce, chicken ragout ... All quite exquisite, isn't it?

Language initiation French with spoken language Dutch

Oostduinkerke is the place to be for beginners. The language initiation formula is a playful introduction to the French language.

With the aid of positive comments and incentives, the tutors encourage participants to speak as much French as possible . Each day you can earn CLIPPERTJES. Gifts and funny quid pro quo's by the tutors are used to reward efforts made by the participants.

Speaking Dutch is allowed to lower the hurdle, except when basic vocabulary, that participants already know, is being discussed. Throughout the week, the bar is slowly raised. On day one, for example, a tutor will pass the bottle of water at the table if a participant asks in Dutch. Later during the week, however, it will be expected to use " la bouteille d'eau".

Participants ages 12 and up who can have easy, short conversations in French can also participate on a holiday in Braives. Here French is the main language.

Language is approached in a practical and visual way. On the table, for instance, there will be a placemat with useful vocabulary that can be used  while sitting there. The daily program will also be posted in French, decorated with cute drawings.

Each language activity is designed to get youngsters moving as much as possible. Our game "flagpole" illustrates this:  when you hear a specific word you have to run as fast as possible to the flag.

Every 45 minutes we work on a different theme. Variation is the key. In the afternoon, the vocabulary learned is repeated in a playful way during the entertainment activities.

Starting this year, we are also organizing a non-residential camp in Oostduinkerke. Ideal for those who live close to the sea and want to attend a language camp during the day. You follow the schedule of the residential camp, but just go home in the evening. Click here for more information about our externship.

On language excursion to France

The trip by bus to the charming market of Boulogne-Sur-Meris a highlight. Afterwards, we drive to Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Gris Nez where we enjoy magnificent views. We discover the area by aid of an interactive quest, adventure guaranteed.

Diverse entertainment activities on the beach and in the dunes

On the beach we play beach volleyball, build sandcastles and catch the waves with our beach boards. We take a team-building trip in the dunes, play an interactive game inspired by Space Invaders or enjoy sporting activities in the garden or on the beach. In the evening we shudder, dance and laugh during fun entertainment such as Le bal de vampires, La coupe du camp, Les 8 travaux or  Casino.

One afternoon we live it up in a subtropical swimming paradise. We splash in the wave pool, flash through the Black Hole, a waterslide with light and sound effects, and challenge each other in the rapids. After this, we explore the coastline on our go-carts.

If you drop the word coast, by definition you imply Ostend. We spend a whole afternoon walking  through this famous coastal town in search of street art. Pure fun at the seaside!
